Gospel singer Beau Williams ..., 26 May 2010 [cached]
Gospel singer Beau Williams will be the featured performer at the 6:30 p.m. June 6 service at the Global House of Praise Christian Refuge Center in Port Barre.
Williams, a Houston native, is a Dove Award winner and frequent performer on the Trinity Broadcasting Network.
Williams first made his mark on the music industry as a popular secular singer, with several top hits on the Billboard charts.
"Then, God got hold of him," said the Rev. Bobby Gradney of Global House of Praise, adding that today Williams sings only gospel music.
Williams began his music career providing backup vocals and with the help of singer George Benson, landed a contract with Capitol Records in 1981.
In 1983, Williams ended Sam Harris' winning streak on Star Search, the pre-American Idol talent search show.
Williams' performance is free of charge and open to the public. Gradney said he has invited several churches to the event.

Beau knows the art of singing ..., 11 Dec 2010 [cached]
Beau knows the art of singing in his own uniquely winning way. His illustrious rise through music success is well documented. He began as a teenage regular on a live television show and proud possessor of a regional hit record in his hometown of Houston, Texas. His journey has included such pivotal pit stops as a highly dramatic, 1984 "Star Search" victory (in which he defeated the thirteen-week long champion), and a four album Capitol Records tenure as one of the industry's premier R&B balladeers.
Beau's fruitful artistic calling was planted in Texas during his formative years as the son of a Baptist preacher (father) and choir director (mother). It was nurtured at Capitol Records while Beau's roots were deeply entrenched in the mainstream marketplace.
Beau is ranked among the top ten National Anthem singers in the United States. He was an anthem singer for the Los Angeles Lakers for six years, and has also performed for the Texas Rangers (NLB), Dallas Cowboys (NFL), and Houston Rockets (NBA).
With the 2005 release of his latest album project, Visions , he is able to stand on a legendary plateau because his multi-faceted career has remained steady in international acclaim.
His other recordings include Higher , Love , Power , They Need to Know , Covenant Brothers , and This Christmas . Beau's music appeals to people from all walks of life, but the message is singular: Beau knows and wants you to know too. What? You'll just have to listen to find out. Listen to Audio Clips
Williams eventually relocated to Los Angeles in search of stardom and was discovered by George Benson, who helped him land a recording contract with Capitol.
After his third Capitol release, Williams signed with Light and returned to his roots in gospel. Summing up ten of his career highlights in the gospel field, The Best of Beau Williams was issued in 1995. - Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
