Barry Palevitz, a faculty adviser of the University of Georgia's Sagan Society, a student-faculty organization dedicated to promoting rationalism and the objective examination of contemporary issues, said that entities like Jackson County are using a historical reference excuse as a crutch for displaying their own religious beliefs in government buildings.

Palevitz believes that the issue represents people scared of the complexity and rapidly changing nature in society taking refuge in traditional beliefs.He said that the framers of the Constitution did everything that they could to protect the minority.The Constitution protects against just the type of "tyranny of the majority " being pushed in Barrow County, he said.
