Barrie Tan, Ph. D., President of American River Nutrition, Inc.
Dr. Barrie Tan earned his doctorate degree in Analytical Biochemistry at the University of Otago, New Zealand and he continued his research and post-doctorate work at Auburn University in Alabama. He served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in the Chemistry & Food Sciences Departments, authoring over 40 archival journal and technical papers. In 1998 he founded American River Nutrition, Inc. Dr. Tan is one of the pioneering researchers responsible for the classification of Tocotrienols as a distinct class of nutrients. His research has focused on how Tocotrienols relate to the more commonly recognized vitamin E compounds known as Tocopherols. His findings have concluded that Tocotrienols actually have 50 times the antioxidant capacity of Tocopherols. This discovery led Dr. Tan to develop Tocotrienol ingredients into dietary supplements with great phyto-nutrient value and rich in antioxidants. Dr. Tan continues his research into phyto-nutrients, and in particular Tocotrienols, and their impact and effect on cardiovascular disease, diabetes, atherosclerosis, cancer, myopathy and sarcopenia and cholesterol.

BARRIE TAN, Ph.D.
BARRIE TAN, Ph.D. BARRIE TAN, Ph.D. earned his Degree in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Otago, New Zealand and later became a Professor at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst teaching Chemistry and Food Science/Nutrition. He has more than 25 years of research experience in lipid soluble vitamins with particular expertise in tocotrienols, tocopherols, carotenoids, cholesterol, CoQ10 and omega 3's. Dr. Tan has commercialized natural carotenoids (lutein and zeaxanthin, alpha- and beta-carotene, lycopene) and was the first to introduce tocotrienol from palm, rice and annatto to our Nutrition Industry. He is the inventor of numerous tocotrienol extractions from natural sources and its application in product formulation and disease prevention. Dr. Tan developed the first ever tocopherol-free tocotrienol product derived from annatto beans. The annatto plant originates from the Amazon rainforest and has been used since ancient times. The "tocopherol-free" aspect is very important, since research has shown that alpha-tocopherol interferes with the benefits of tocotrienol. Dr. Tan has been involved in numerous trials on tocotrienols for cancer, prediabetes/diabetes, antioxidant potential and hypercholesterolemia. Of all the studies published on PubMed, tocotrienol in cancer prevention and treatment is most compelling. Also to his credit, he will be editing the second edition of a textbook called "Tocotrienols: Vitamin E Beyond Tocopherols." Dr. Tan may be contacted through his company called American River Nutrition located in Hadley, Massachusetts by phone 413-253-3449, website www.americanrivernutrition.com and e-mail arn@american-river.com. He will speak on Tocotrienol Vitamin E In Cancer Treatment & Prevention.
