Barbie Swanson is a nationally known fiber artist, teacher, designer and inventor. She is a member of many fiber art organizations including the Surface Design Association and the North Florida Art League. She invents tools to aid in design. And she creates specialty hand-dyed and painted fabrics and yarns which she incorporates into her art pieces. Because of her love of nature and the way she brings this love into her art, she has won many awards for her art creations and has been published in several magazines. She loves to teach, from the very basics to the more complex, and the motto for Barbie's students is "YES, I CAN! Barbie will always tell you that there are two criteria for making quilts & fiber sculpture: having a meaning or message and having a highlighted effect that invites you to look closely at it, as well as seeing the impact from afar. Barbie exhibited some of her quilt pieces at the ARTSERVE Gallery in Fort Lauderdale, Stretching Art and Tradition exhibit annually in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, The Orchid Society in Palm Beach County, Florida, Columbia County Library in north Florida, Quilts at the Crossroads in Flint, Michigan, Visions "Fiber of Coronado " special exhibit and various local & national shows. Her quilt, "Lurking-We Should Have Known" was chosen to and traveled for 3 years around the world with the "America From the Heart" exhibit sponsored by Quilts, Inc. Letter of Agreement

for Workshops & Lectures by Barbie Swanson
A signed copy of this document must be part of any agreement between Barbie Swanson and your group. ALL requested information must be filled out, signed by you, and returned to Barbie Swanson no later than 60 days prior to Barbie's departure for your venue. (90 days for international venues) Please include payment for 1/2 of the lecture and workshop costs with this contract. After the initial payment, the balance of the fees and all other costs will be due and payable to Barbie Swanson on the last day of the contracted term of engagement. If you would like to reserve dates before you know the exact locations of your events, or the exact workshops your group wants to book, you can send the preliminary agreement , to reserve your spot in Barbie's schedule, and send this full contract later. This is to confirm our verbal agreement that Barbie Swanson will present workshop(s) and/or lecture(s) for: Barbie will not promote these items during the class, nor will she spend class time selling them. Travel arrangementswill be made by Barbie Swanson or the travel agent of the conference / guild, with Barbie's agreement on dates of travel, routes, airline etc. (Seating on aisles is preferred.) In order to secure the most economical air transportation, Barbie must be provided with all necessary information about exact dates and times of workshops and other events at least 90 days prior to the first scheduled event on the trip which includes your events. Please keep in mind that you may not be the first group on her itinerary, and you may be required to provide this information more than 90 days prior to your events. When driving to workshops, Barbie will expect the group or groups to pay or share the economy airfare to your locations or the mileage (48¢ per mile) whichever is less. Ground Transportation: Arrangements will be made by the guild/conference to meet Barbie Swanson at airport locations with a vehicle adequate to handle three large (70 pound/ 40 kilo) suitcases. Remember we will be lifting them in and out. If Barbie will be in your area for extra days in order for your group to share expenses with other groups in your area, the guild / conference will be responsible for sharing all expenses on these extra days with the other groups involved. Barbie will need at least one day of rest after seven days of teaching and traveling before teaching additional workshops. Your guild/conference will be responsible for expenses on these days. These expenses may be shared by other groups in the event that this is a multi-group tour. Barbie often travels with her husband Rob, especially when driving. The guild will not be responsible for his expenses. In the case of hotels that have an extra charge for a second person in the room, Barbie will pay the extra charge. The Guild may cancel a workshop due to insufficient enrollment at any time prior to the purchase of non-refundable airline tickets, or any other expenses incurred by Barbie Swanson. If a workshop is canceled due to insufficient enrollment, Barbie Swanson must be notified before incurring any expenses. If a workshop is canceled after the purchase of airline tickets, the guild will be responsible of paying for the tickets. If a workshop is canceled, and coming to your group for fewer workshops or lectures than originally agreed upon in this contract will cause economic hardship for Barbie Swanson, she reserves the right to cancel the remainder of the contracted workshops / lectures. A signed copy of this letter of understanding or the Preliminary Agreement must be returned to Barbie Swanson before a firm commitment can be made. If your group would like to reserve future dates, but has not yet booked a venue or made decisions on which workshops to schedule, a copy of the Preliminary Agreement may be used to reserve the time in Barbie's schedule. A completed copy of this contract must subsequently be forwarded at a later date and at least 60 days before the scheduled workshops/lectures. (90 days for international venues) Contracts that have not arrived by 60 days prior to the scheduled dates are subject to cancellation by Barbie.
