Grainger Today Correspondent RUTLEDGE - The Grainger County Board of Education has approved a budget of nearly $27 million for the 2017-18 academic year. The measure approved at its May 16 meeting includes a two percent pay raise for all staff, bus contractors and drivers, as well as funds for an additional school resource officer at Rutledge Primary School. Director of Schools Edwin Jarnagin said it is yet to be determined whether the officer will come from the Rutledge Police Department or Grainger County Sheriff's Department. He said the $26,855,009 budget does not include federal programs since that amount has not been determined yet. Jarnagin told the board child alert systems will be purchased for all school buses that do not have them. He also told the board the July meeting will be moved to Thursday, July 20.
