Dr. Uthman started his academic career at College of Dentistry at Baghdad University.He served as the dean of the college from 1970 until he left Iraq in 1972, moved to the US and became a professor at New York University in Buffalo, New York. Dr. Uthman
was a strong defender of the human rights and a very active Kurdish patriot.He
was one of the founders of the Kurdish National Congress of North America
(KNC) in 1988.He served as the Secretary of KNC for many years and as a board member of the Washington Kurdish Institute (WKI).Dr. Uthman
played a significant role in bringing the plight of the Kurdish people to the attention of the international community, and he
is missed by his
family members, colleagues and all Kurdish people and those who work for peace.
