60-year-old Barb Hoyhtya made an appearance in Renville County Court on Monday to face two felony charges of embezzling public funds.
Prosecutors say she stole more than $7,100 from the City of Hector by filing false expense reports and keeping the extra money. She reportedly repaid the cash after being confronted about the situation, and resigned as city administrator. Hoyhtya is now scheduled to be back in court for a settlement conference in early January. Prosecutors reportedly want her record to show the embezzlement of public money as part of any potential plea deal.
