This year's Family Physician of the Year Award winner for P.E.I. is Dr. Barbara Flanagan
of Charlottetown.Flanagan's selection was announced Wednesday by the College of Family Physicians of Canada
at the organization's annual meeting in Winnipeg.Each year, the college presents the Reg L. Perkin Award to 10 family doctors , one from each province , who exemplify the best in family medicine in Canada. The award was presented to Flanagan
during the annual Family Medicine Forum in Winnipeg.The citation for Flanagan
reads:"It's all about balance for Barbara
, a lifelong P.E.I. resident and dedicated family doctor who is known as an ,expert juggler' to meet the needs of her
patients and community with those of her
family and friends."Barbara
initially set up practice at the Charlottetown Clinic.Now at the P.E.I. Polyclinic, she
also pursues emergency medicine and obstetrics.Barbara is on staff at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and has served as head of family practice.

was executive treasurer of the Prince Edward Island College of Family Physicians
for over 20 years. "In addition, Barbara
participated on the board of the P.E.I. School of Nursing
and volunteers her time with Anderson House, a women's shelter, the local ballet school and swim team.
