Barbara Barta is a Registered Midwife with Bloom Community Midwives in Vancouver.
is currently on maternity leave herself, after the recent birth of her
daughter Cadence Metta.
previously worked in a northern Quebec Inuit village in their Maternity Department, and operated her
own midwifery practice in Kelowna
called LifeJoy Midwifery.
For six years she
helped many families in the Okanagan valley with primary care for hospital and home births.
also assisted with some aspects of Avalon's ecovillage development initiative, and looks forward to contributing to the evolution of Avalon's health and wellness programs and services.

Following four years at McGill University and the University of Victoria

She has served on the Board of the College of Midwives of British Columbia, the Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) Quality Improvement Committee, the KGH interdisciplinary Perinatal Committee and the Okanagan Health Service Area Maternal/ Child Accreditation Team.
has extensive involvement in organizational development and policy, facilitation and community action, including projects for family wellness and health, environmentalism and human rights.
