Azizan Abdul Razak, the PAS chief for Kedah, has been kept busy the past few weeks preparing for the biggest political event on his turf in years, his party's annual assembly or muktamar. This will be only the third time in the party's history that the assembly is being held in Kedah and Azizan seems intent on impressing the 1,000-odd PAS delegates who will be streaming in from all over the country from Tuesday. He
even rushed the construction of the RM2-mil party building on the outskirts of Alor Star so that it would be ready in time for the assembly.
It was built in eight short months, leading party members to joke that Azizan
ought to have been given the contract for the Matrade building which took 12 years to complete.
The new structure is equipped with a sophisticated acoustic system and has a grand-looking stage although it looks like a massive padi storehouse from outside.
But all the hard work has caused Azizan
to develop a bad cough and lose his

Azizan Receives Appointment Letter As Kedah MB ALOR SETAR, March 9 (Bernama) -- Kedah PAS commissioner Azizan Abdul Razak received the letter of appointment as the new Kedah Menteri Besar from the Sultan of Kedah this afternoon.
The letter was presented at a ceremony at Wisma Darul Aman, here, witnessed by the Raja Muda, former Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid and those who had won the State Assembly seats in the general election Saturday.Azizan
, 64, was appointed the Menteri Besar after leading the opposition coalition in defeating the Barisan Nasional
(BN) in the state in the election yesterday.
...Azizan, who has a Bachelor's degree in Syariah from Al-Azhar University and a Law degree from University of Kent, was a former Head of the Syariah Department of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and a member of the PAS central committee.He
first contested and won the Sala state seat in the 1999 general election and retained it in 2004 when it was changed to Sungai Limau.
In Saturday's election, Azizan
defeated BN's Basori Abu Hassan with a majority of 3,212 votes.Azizan
garnered 12,028 votes.
