Avis Arletta Gemmill, daughter of Archie and Mabel (Webster) Gemmill, was born on May 1, 1926, in Jay Township, Martin County.As a youth, she attended country school in Jay Township, and later in Sherburn, and then graduated from Jackson High School in 1944.On April 29, 1950, she was united in marriage to Walter Olson at the Alpha Presbyterian Church in Alpha.After their marriage, they settled in Enterprise Township, Jackson County.Avis was a member of the Sherburn Assembly of God Regional Worship Center in Sherburn, where she had been a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Women's Missionary Council.She sewed thousands of kids' clothes for the Mission Workshop in Kenneth, Minn.She had been the matriarch of the family and a loving grandmother and mother-in-law.Avis is survived by one son, Warren Olson of rural Alpha; two daughters, Kathleen and husband Keith Evenson of Elk River, and Connie and husband Mark Laurn of Rosemount; 13 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one son-in-law, Bill and wife Jill Spieker of Kenneth.
