Aurelio Umali of Nueva Ecija and Isidro Real of Zamboanga del Sur said the appointment of Guingona as special envoy and senior adviser on economic affairs and development, was a fulfillment of the President's State-of-the-Nation Address commitment to end bitter partisanship for national unity.
and Real said Guingona's acceptance of the twin posts, showed his statesmanship and selflessness, which are worth-emulating by the opposition to help the administration succeed in fulfilling its development agenda.
...Umali, a member of the Commission on Appointments, said the President promised in her SONA to end the season of bitter partisanship, which she vowed to fulfill by forming a government of national unity.
"We are gratified by former Vice President Guingona's statesmanships, which shows his
primordial concern is public service and interest rather than partisanship." Umali
urged the opposition to emulate Guingona's example by working for the common good rather than their vested interests.
