CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Third District Representative Aurelio "Dong" Gonzales has lauded the merger of the Lakas and Kampi political parties saying it was a good step in the right direction.
"I believe it's a good move because it will bring the country's best political leaders under one roof and should pave the way for an effective consolidation of political minds and vision for the country," Gonzales told Sun. tar in an interview. "The Manny Pacquiao Blog". Click here for stories and updates on the Filipino boxing champ. Gonzales is the district chairman of Kampi in Pampanga and is the highest elected official of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's party in the province. As one of the youngest officials of Kampi, Gonzales is authorized to undertake recruitment of new members at all local levels and, in general, assist the regional chairman in recruitment and other matters. "The merger can potentially make me busier as district chairman and could create some challenges for me along the way, but I think the overall effect should be positive," he said. As district chairman, Gonzales said that he is authorized to approve the nomination of candidates for local in his district, subject to the confirmation of the national executive committee. "This means that I will have to evaluate, among others, the winning chances of the candidates in addition to assessing their other qualifications," he said. The lawmaker said that the strong loyalty of the nominees to the Constitution and By-Laws of the party shall also be evaluated. "As chairman I am also tasked to submit political situation report and assist the national officers in the assessment of political strategy. "In light of the merger between Lakas and Kampi, I will submit my own political assessment in my district in due time," Gonzales said.
