NICHOLAS ATTANASIO
Mr. Attanasio began his career as a drummer in 1932 as a snare drum Sergeant with the Mill Rock VFW Fife Drum & Bugle Corps. He began playing rudimental bass drum with the Knights of Columbus in 1939. He has been playing bass drum with the Civil War Troopers since 1945. He has been a percussion instructor with the Cohoes Grenadiers, Civil War Troopers and numerous Fife and Drum Corps. Nick held various executive positions with the Hudson Valley Drum Corps Association. He has won numerous state, regional and national championships. Nick was a member of the National Champion Reilly drum line in 1958 & 1959. He returned to the Rebels in 1960 and was a member and Assistant Instructor of their Championship Drum line in 1969, 1970, and 1971. He was a member of the Rebels until the competing corps disbanded. He was instrumental in the formation of the Yankee Rebels Alumni and continues to be their Assistant Instructor and a member of the snare line.

Dominick, Therese, Nicholas and Gus Cuccia with Nick Attanasio, Marching Clinic/PerformanceDominick, Therese, Nicholas and Gus Cuccia and Nick AttanasioThe winner of four consecutive bass drum titles at the Northeastern Championship (1988-1991), Nicholas Cuccia began studying with rudimental bass drummer Nick Attanasio in 1987.In addition to her performance with him during the historic Drummer's Heritage Concert at PASIC 2002, Therese Cuccia has studied with rudimental master Nick Attanasio as well as with Al Merritt, a former student of Earl Sturtze.Nick AttanasioNICK ATTANASIOConsidered by many to be the "father of modern day bass drumming," Nick Attanasio performed as a soloist on the historic Drummer's Heritage Concert at PASIC 2002.In 1940, he became a rudimental bass drummer and played with the Sons of Liberty Fife & Drum Corps (Brooklyn, NY) alongside Les Parks and Bobby Thompson.Attanasio won state titles in New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Virginia as well as the Northeastern States' title.He retired from individual competition in 1971 as the undefeated New York and Northeastern States Champion.Twenty-one years later, he recaptured both titles with a perfect score of 200 just weeks before his 70th birthday!As a composer, Attanasio has written two books (with the late fifer Frank Grady), Tunes of the Hudson Valley, Vols.
