AshleyMarinaccio, Founder/Executive Director: Ashley is an activist and artist dedicated to creating theatre that challenges the status quo. Though a New Yorker at heart, she was born and raised in New Jersey and has traveled extensively, most notably in the Middle East, where she lived in Beirut, Lebanon while studying Arabic and Middle Eastern theatre performance. Ashley's passion is utilizing theatre for peace building, healing and empowerment in conflict zones and in marginalized communities both home and abroad.
She has countless directing, performing and playwriting credits, and her work is regularly seen throughout the tri-state area. Highlights of her career as a stage director include GirlPower: Survival of the Fittest (2010) and GirlPower: Voices of a Generation (2009) in the NY International Fringe Festival, Decadent Acts (playwright/ director) at The Planet Connections Theatre Festivity for which she received the Planet Activist Award, My Name is Rachel Corrie (Kraine Theatre), Documentary: A Suicide Narrative (playwright/ director -- Gene Frankel Theatre and Brecht Forum). Ashley's directing work has appeared several times at the United Nations, regionally at New Jersey State Theatre and, most recently, on a national tour with Project Girl Congo. She is a long time organizer and advocate of the V-Day Campaign (www.vday.org) to end violence against women for which she received the national LUNA Bar Award for Production Excellence for The Vagina Monologues in 2006.
Selected acting credits include Charlotte in Beyond Therapy, Hecuba in The Trojan Women, Lulu in Cabaret, appearances in new plays at Primary Stages, television pilots and film roles. Ashley has received critical acclaim for her work in the New Yorker, Backstage and NYTheatre.com. Show Business Weekly describes Ashley as "reminiscent of Tony Kushner" in that she uses theater to inspire political change without "sacrificing an ounce of entertainment value... a writer to keep an eye on."
