Boca Raton, FL - Patriot Rail Corp. ("Patriot"), a leading operator of short line and regional freight railroads, today announced the appointment of Arthur L. Shoener to the Board of Directors of the company.
In this role, Shoener
will provide executive support and oversight in company proceedings.
A fourth generation railroader, Shoener began his rail career while in college with the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, joining the Missouri Pacific Railroad after graduation.
During his 45-year rail career, Shoener has served in various senior level leadership roles, including as President and CEO of Kansas City Southern Railway ("KCS"), where he successfully led the integration of KCS de Mexico into the KCS network.
He also served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Kansas City Southern Corporation, and was a member of the Kansas City Southern Board of Directors.
Shoener's other senior management roles included Executive Vice President - Operations at North America's largest railroad, Union Pacific ("UP"), where he provided overall strategic and tactical direction for all of UP operations (36,000 route miles, 45,000 people, and $6 billion budget).
While at UP, he also led numerous innovative process and technology changes which have transformed rail industry operations, including: UP's Harriman Dispatching Center with its computer-aided dispatching; the application of new distributive power technology in heavy haul rail operations; and the streamlining of international protocols for U.S. and Mexico railcar interchange that dramatically improved cross-border rail movements.

own international consulting practice where he
continues to work closely with several railroad companies.
He has also served as Chairman and/or Director of the Port Terminal Railroad, Belt Railway of Chicago, Houston Belt and Terminal Railway, Alton and Southern Railroad and Terminal Railroad Association.
In addition to the rail sector, Shoener has been involved in business and educational activities, including the Board of Trustees at the University of Evansville, Chair of the Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank (Omaha Branch), and past Chair of the AAR Operating General Committee.
A native of Indiana, Shoener graduated from the University of Evansville with a B.S. in Business Administration.
He also attended Harvard Business School for post-graduate studies, receiving a Program Management Development certificate.
