early years Arlene Lindner Small
studied piano with Ada Vanosdoll in Montrose.Organ study began in high school with Pat Metnic and continued with Doris Heller.While a junior in high school she was appointed organist of St. John's Episcopal Church.Upon graduation from Keokuk Senior High School in 1971, she attended Drake University in Des Moines on a music scholarship, studying with Dr. Frank B. Jordan.
After two years at Drake University she
transferred to the University of Oklahoma
to study with the renowned Mildred Andrews Boggess.She obtained a Bachelor of Music (with honors) and Master of Music degree.After her marriage to Stan Small she moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma, where she taught piano and organ privately and served as organist in various local churches.
While living in Oklahoma, Arlene
was named an Outstanding Young Woman of America.Her
family now resides in the Dallas-Ft.Worth area.For many years Arlene served as Organist/Music Assistant at First United Methodist Church in Hurst, Texas with a church membership of more than 3,400.She
also taught private organ
