Athletics chief Go Teng Kok announced this yesterday after appointing Antonio Yang Sr., owner and chairman of the Islander Footwear Manufacturing Corp., as vice chairman of the athletics association during the Patafa monthly board meeting at the Century Park Sheraton.
With the victory of Patafa chairman Al Fernandez in the mayoralty race in the City of Dagupan in Pangasinan, the bulk of responsibility, particular in financial matters, now rests on the shoulders of Yang. But Yang said he welcomes the challenge of providing support to the Filipino athletes, particularly with regards to their training and stints abroad as the country prepares for the Southeast Asian Games which will be held late this year, as well as the tracksters' quest for an Olympics berth next year in Beijing, China. Just like what our advertising campaign says, 'iba ang tibay ng Islander.' Our company is committed to support not only athletics, but Philippine sports in general," said Yang, chairman emeritus of the Filipino-Chinese Shoe Industries of the Philippines and founding chairman of the Quezon City Association of Filipino-Chinese Businessmen.
