Anthony K. Hedley, MD, FRCS, is a world-renowned orthopaedic surgeon, author, researcher, and educator specializing in joint reconstruction and replacement.
He received his medical degree from the University of Witwatersand in Johannesburg, South Africa, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. After he completed fellowships in orthopaedic surgery at St. Thomas Hospital, London and in joint replacement/biomechanics at UCLA, Dr. Hedley was an Assistant Professor of Surgery/Orthopaedics at UCLA. In 1982, he joined the Institute for Bone & Joint Disorders staff and is currently President of the corporation. In addition, he has been Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics at St. Luke's Medical Center since 1987. He also has appointments at several other hospitals in the Phoenix area. Dr. Hedley has received numerous awards and honors including the OTTO AUFFRANC and the JOHN CHARNLEY awards from the Hip Society. He has been listed in The Best Doctors in America every year since its inception in 1992. In addition, he has been featured in Phoenix Magazine's "Top Docs" issue for excellence in Orthopaedic Reconstructive Surgery yearly since 1998 and in Who's Who Worldwide in 1991. Dr. Hedley was the featured orthopaedic surgeon in several documentaries, some which have been aired nationally on the PBS, including, "The Implant, Hip Replacement" and "Implant II - Knee Replacement". He has lectured frequently throughout the United States and abroad on research and findings relating to joint reconstruction and replacement. Dr. Hedley is a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Medical Association, British Medical Association, South African Medical Association, International Hip Society, International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, Orthopaedic Research Society, Society for Arthritic Joint Surgery, and the Society for Biomaterials. Dr. Hedley has also served as Corresponding Editor of Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research and as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Arthroplasty .

Doctor Hedley is the principal investigator in several research projects investigating joint replacements and is an internationally recognized speaker. He has received numerous awards and honors including the Otto Aufrance and the John Charnley award from the Hip Society. He has been listed in The Best Doctors in America every year since its inception in 1992 and in Who's Who Worldwide in 1991. In addition, he was the featured surgeon in the documentaries "The Implant: Hip Revision Surgery"; "The Implant II: Knee Replacement"; and "The Implant III: Hip Revision Surgery," which were syndicated nationally on PBS and a variety of cable channels, such as Discovery Health.
