Borough Councilman Andrew Koontz, chair of the Princeton Democratic Municipal Committee, said three candidates , Anne Waldron Neumann, Barbara Trelstad and Kevin Wilkes , have formally submitted their names to the committee.Ms. Neumann sought the council seat vacated by Mayor Joseph O'Neill in 2004 but lost in the primary to Mr. Koontz and Roger Martindell.Ms. Neumann holds a doctorate in English literature and has taught at The Arts Council of Princeton and the Princeton Adult School.She serves on the Site Plan Review Advisory Board of the Regional Planning Board of Princeton, the Princeton Environmental Commission and the Community-Based Neighborhood Retail Initiative of Princeton Future.

"I would like to serve on the Borough Council," said Ms. Neumann, who spent her childhood in the borough and moved back as an adult.Ms. Neumann, who holds a doctorate in English literature and has taught writing at The Arts Council of Princeton, is active in Princeton Future's Community Neighborhood Retail Initiative, which seeks ways to encourage independent businesses in the downtown.She would like the borough to consider a community development corporation for the downtown and also wants to explore how other communities in New Jersey keep a thriving downtown with independent merchants."I feel that has been lacking a bit on the council," Ms. Neumann said.An issue Ms. Neumann will explore during the campaign is converting the Valley Road building, owned by the Princeton Regional School District, to a rooming house for single men aimed at providing affordable, temporary housing for recent Latino immigrants and cutting down on overcrowding problems in the John-Witherspoon neighborhood.
