Anne Gilman is a Brooklyn-based artist who works in varying formats that include large-scale drawings, prints, and multi-panel projects. Using pencils, inks, and layers of pigment, she writes, redacts, draws, layers and orders the range of experiences encountered minute by minute as she works. The resulting drawings are a mapping of information, thought and emotion.

Gilman's work has been included in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States, Latin America, and Europe including Mexico, Havana, Berlin, Paris, Chicago, Philadelphia and New York. Recent exhibitions include Descifrar/ to decipher, decode, figure out at Instituto Cervantes in NY where she created a floor drawing onsite incorporating noise, conversations, and interactions with visitors as part of the work; The Jolly Balance, a featured artist project at The Center for Book Arts in NY; Type Indicators at Art Helix; Redux at The Center for Book Arts; Psyched at Central Booking; New Prints/Summer 2014 at IPCNY + Christies; Kiki Bouba at Sarah Lawrence College, Estampes+ in Paris and Off the Charts in Albuquerque.
Gilman was a recipient of a Fellowship from the Edward Albee Foundation in 2010, a MacDowell Fellowship in 2012, and a Chenven Foundation award in 2015. Her work was recently featured in Bomb Magazine, TECA/ Testimonianze Editoria Cultura Arte, Guernica Magazine, Publishing Perspectives, Prattfolio, and the Spanish-language magazine, Literal. She has spoken on numerous panels about her work including at Ediciones Vigía in Mantazas, Cuba, The Kresge Art Museum in Michigan, Abrons Art Center in NY, Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute in Utica, NY, Tribeca Center for the Performing Arts in NY, The Center for Book Arts in NY, Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts, Wilmington, LARVA in Guadalajara, Mexico, Local Project in Queens, The Brooklyn Public Library, and most recently with Brett Littman, the Executive Director of The Drawing Center and Alex Zafiris, a freelance writer during a gallery talk in conjunction with her solo show at Instituto Cervantes in 2015.
Gilman's next solo exhibition, In any one day, how all the things get mixed together, will beat Five Points Gallery in Torrington CT, May 26 - June 25, 2016. She is currently preparing work for a three-person exhibition, • Start here, at Lesley Heller Workspace (December 2016 - January 2017).
