The elimination of agency staff and overtime through the improvement in the workplace culture and the grooming of new CNAs through the RSA program also generated considerable savings.
Ferguson calculates the savings as follows: The facility currently employs 30 CNAs who came in through its RSA program, at a cost of approximately $686,400 a year for wages and benefits.
Without the program, those 30 CNAs would have been hired through a temp agency, at a cost of $1,185,600 a year.
Accounting for the additional cost of training those CNAs, at $3,500 each, the savings amounts to $394,200 a year.
