ANNE DEMETER KRAPISH

ANNE DEMETER is a painter of people.
She works in transparent and opaque watercolor as well as acrylic and oil paint. Many of her works have been chosen for Dana Farber Cancer Institute's Card Program. These works depict the character of Boston from the North End's Roma Band to the benches of the Public Gardens. Anne is best known though for her portrayal of children, often surrounded by opalescent light and the colorful reflections within New England beaches or inner city fountains. Anne has taught in Danvers for the past 18 years, and is a founding member of the Saltbox Gallery in Topsfield. She has won numerous awards and is an artist member of both Rockport Art Association and North Shore Arts Association (where she is a former president).

Anne C. Demeter acquired her love of drawing from her mother and began painting at age 11 when she began lessons with an instructor on the North Shore.
Every Saturday morning, those lessons focused on color theory, warms vs. cools; and limiting compositions, working en plein air. Anne went on to receive a B.A. in art/education and to teach children with special needs in Brewster, N.Y. When she returned to the North Shore, she studied with Helen Van Wyk, Betty Lou Schlemm, Charles Movalli, Don Stone and other accomplished artists. She worked part-time, teaching adult watercolor classes at the Danvers Senior Center and demonstrated for Charettes in Woburn. A past president of the North Shore Arts Association and past trustee of the Rockport Art Association, Anne has received numerous awards.
