Anne Bissell
Since the controversial and ground-breaking publication of her autobiographical book, "Memoirs of a Sex Industry Survivor," in 2004, Anne Bissell has been on the frontline in the fight against the commercialized sexual exploitation of children.
"Anne Bissell's story is chillingly real, dramatic and typical of the lives led by hundreds of thousands of American children right here in the United States."
From 2004 to 2010 Bissell appeared on Dr. Phil, Current Affair, Montel, Rita Cosby, Donnie Deutsch, Dr. Keith Ablow, and three times on the Tyra Banks Show.
The executive director of Voices for Justice Network, Bissell and nation-wide silver braid representatives, have helped countless girls and women on a yearly, monthly basis find resources to rebuild their lives from the ravaging effects of participation in the sex industry.

Anne Bissell, a third-generation writer and former technical writer in the computer industry, has a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Performing Arts/Journalism) from the University of Maryland. She has worked for well over fifteen years as a professional writer, and has also earned a certificate in writing from the University of California, San Diego. She is the author of the popular new book “Memoirs of a sex Industry Survivor.” Bissell has studied women in the sex industry for over two decades. She has worked successfully with women in the criminal justice system with the mission to help them get out of prostitution. She lives with her husband and son in Southern California.
“Dubious pornography business owners are causing growth in the illegal and highly immoral sex trafficking industry” says author Anne Bissell. “They are doing irreparable harm to these poor defenseless women and children.”
Anne will be a guest at the “Pornography: Driving the Demand for International Sex Trafficking” conference beginning this Sunday at the Hilton Garden Inn in downtown Chicago. The purpose of this conference is to share information about the connections among trafficking, pornography and demand along with the development of a toolkit to empower activists working to address pornography's role in creating demand for sex trafficking. The public is welcomed and urged to attend. The key speakers will address pornography, demand and sex trafficking from a feminist perspective. The conference is sponsored by Captive Daughters and the International Human Rights Law Institute of DePaul University.
Bissell is joining the conference as the Executive Director of Voices for Justice, a related non- profit organization devoted to the research and public awareness of the social and economic impact of the sex industry. Anne is also the author of the popular new book “Memoirs of a Sex Industry Survivor” (2004 Cleopatra International Publications ISBN 0-9746060-0-6) which is part of the Juliet West Trilogy. Her new book is an exposé into the sex industry and the consequent negative effects it has on the lost souls in “The Life.”
But more than a mere author, Anne is an activist who has lit a revolution. She has dedicated her life to deglamourizing the multi-billion dollar sex industry while rehabilitating its victims and the victims of sexual abuse. Through the global networks of groups and organizations she has championed or supports, Anne is able to provide direction to both young and old victims and pivotal help that is necessary for recovery. Anne is the founder of Sex Industry Survivors Anonymous, co-founder of Sexual Abuse Survivors in Recovery Anonymous and is a member of the Rescue and Restore Coalition. Anne Bissell ~ What if it was Your Daughter?
Executive Director Anne Bissell, author of "Memoirs of a Sex Industry Survivor" and a child trafficking victim, became aware of the need to identify the three parts of sexual violence when she was asked to be a part of a roundtable discussion sponsored by the Department of Justice, Office of Violence against Women.    Taking place on November 19, 2011 What if it was Your Daughter?
Anne noticed that only programs that fell under the category of Domestic Violence or sexual assault were funded.  When Anne inquired about this at the roundtable discussion, she was told by the then acting Director of the Office of Violence against Women,  "Congress does not allow funding for survivors of sexual exploitation."
Anne, a prostituted teen and survivor of horrific sexual abuse, understands at a deep level how the sex industry collaborates to enslave both the participants and the customers.
Anne Bissell, Executive Director (Ventura, CA) Anne Bissell is the first author/activist and sexual exploitation survivor to bring out the connections between childhood sexual exploitation, pornography, domestic prostitution and international trafficking.
