Ann is an extraordinary professional musician with very broad experience and training within the mainstream of Common Practice Music - and a passion for bringing it to life. At age 11 she began accompanying church services on the piano. Her organ training began at DePauw University's School of Music where on a music scholarship she earned a Bachelor's degree in Organ Performance. Ann's achievement at DePauw earned her another scholarship, this time to what was the best organ training in the country at Union Theological Seminary in New York City. During her two years there she studied under Dr. Robert Fountain, Julius Herford and Elaine Brown. She rounded out her religious philosophy training under such giants as Reinhold Niebuhr and Robert McAfee Brown, earning a master's degree in Sacred Music. Ann began work as a full-time church organist and director of music at St. Marks Presbyterian Church in Tucson, Arizona, and she continued directing music programs over the next forty-five years in numerous churches of many denominations in such diverse locations as Albany, New York; McLean, Virginia; Des Moines, Iowa; Camden, South Carolina; and in Maryland: Severna Park, Centreville, Stevensville, and Easton.
Ann has performed organ recitals in such venues as St. Thomas Church, New York City; Cathedral of All Saints, Albany; First Reformed Church, Albany; Central Presbyterian Church, Des Moines, Iowa; and St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Easton, Maryland.
Ann has also worked with young singers to train them in healthy singing practices to protect their voices and to develop young singers. She was on the music faculty of the Albany Academy for Girls for 10-years while her daughters were enrolled there. Locally, in 1999, Ann founded the now 40-voice Chesapeake Youth Chorale - for boys and girls from ages 8 to 18 - where she is still the director. Over the years Ann has had over forty of her young choristers competitively selected to sing the demanding regimen of performance in honor choirs at national and local conventions of the American Choral Directors Association. Ann has been active in state and county chapters of music professional organizations and is currently a member of the Maryland State Arts Council Grants Committee. For 6-years Ann was the director of the adult 60-voice Queen Anne's Chorale, and is completing her 5th year as director of our 80-voice Chester River Chorale.
