...The Colorado Association of School Boards
recently bestowed its 2003 Distinguished Service Award on Gilpin County resident Ann Fattor
.The award was presented at the Fifth General Session, Sunday, Dec. 7.Fattor
has just completed her
final term as a member of the Gilpin County School Board
. Fattor was awarded the Sarah Jane Gilliland Distinguished Service Award, which recognizes a current or former member of a board of education who has provided outstanding service at the local, state and national levels.
Recipients are selected by the CASB Board of Directors.Fattor is a former member of the CASB as well as the
Gilpin County RE-1 School Board of Directors. CASB said, "Ann, CASB's past president and eight-year member of the Gilpin RE-1 board of education, represents the spirit of education and the courage of a true leader.
Among other achievements, she
led discussions with representatives from CASE and CEA on tenure reform, chaired CASB's Foundation
board and was involved in Regis University's efforts to shape education reform. "Her
direct but kind approach in representing the interests of all school boards disarmed those who have been barriers to education and many of whom have become our friends.In her
time as a school board member, Ann
has traveled all over Colorado and to Washington, D.C. in defense of our public school system.Ann
has and will forever be a true supporter and champion of children and public education."
