BENTONVILLE - Media specialist Ann Ayres asked people in the room to stand up if she had been their teacher at some point in her career.

Nearly a dozen people stood as they applauded Ayres, who was named the Bentonville School District Teacher of the Year Thursday night. She received the honor during the annual Bentonville Public Schools Foundation "Foundations of Excellence"teacher appreciation banquet.
"I've always tried to encourage kids to read, and I've encouraged them to be lifelong learners," Ayres said with happy tears glistening in her eyes as she clutched a bouquet of roses.
Robin Wright, the new executive director of the foundation, can testify to the fact that Ayres inspires a love for learning in her students.
Wright was one of those who stood up, acknowledging that Ayres had been her teacher.
Ayres said she has been offered jobs in other districts, but she has stayed in Bentonville because the administration has a heart for all the students' needs.
