Developer Angelo Orsi and city dispute over University Avenue
...
But Angelo Orsi, Charter's president, argues his refusal to provide land for hydro wires is a "protest" that stems from the city not listening to residents.
"When the public speaks up (and is not heard) we feel ignored and then we basically protest in a way.
This is a protest,"
Orsi said in an interview on Tuesday.
...
Orsi said
his "beef" is with how the naming process was handled, not that the name was changed.
"It's not the name change.
The biggest issue I had was the process in which the name change was done was against basically the people's wishes,"
he said.
...
The community was not consulted about this,
Orsi said in an interview on Tuesday.
"The solution they found was amongst themselves versus the people of the community."
Charter Construction will give
Orillia the easements for free if the entire stretch of road is named West Ridge Boulevard,
Orsi said.
"As far as I'm concerned on the issue, we said the name change doesn't cost taxpayers a penny.
It doesn't cost them nothing,"
Orsi said.
The second option would be to "exert the process of expropriation... they're entitled to,"
he said.
...
"
Mr. Orsi's position is
he will gladly give the easements provided the name is changed back,"
he said.
...
Seems to me as
Mr. Orsi sold the land, and there has been an ongoing dispute over the street's name the Council needs to say 'Uncle' and not waste the taxpayers money?
...
Mr. Orsi has has execised a great deal of influence in this community in the past and now
he wants to be Mayor.
What will happen if
he gets the top job with even more influence?
...
This is simply put a pi**ing contest because council knows if
Orsi gets in as mayor their days of diddling around are over.
Change the entire street to West Ridge because that's what the entire area is called then vote
Orsi in and get rid of these carbuncles we call council.
...
Instead, they want to start a fight that they will not win, particularly if
Mr Orsi is successful in the election.
...
Why doesn't
Orsi give the land to show
his willingness to work with members of the present council and save taxpayers money?
Then, if
he wins
he can have a public meeting about another name change.
This just shows both council and
Orsi in a bad light.
...
Of course
Orsi could do something to demonstrate that
he is the better man and worth voting for.
But not much chance of that is there?
Orsi doesn't care about Orillia or its' taxpayers, he looks out for number one.
Always.
Just like all the rest.
...
Orsi should be happy Orillia taxpayers are investing 10's of millions of dollars in
his sprawl community.
