Smith, native of Detroit, MI graduated from Cass Technical High School, as a member of the National Honors Society.Smith's continued interest in social science lead to a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology, at Adrian College.A student leader and member of a number of organizations including Residence Life, Campus Activities Network, Campus Allocations Board, Alpha Kappa Delta, a national honorary sociology fraternity, she also held the position of President for ALPHA, African American Leaders Promoting Higher Achievement and the Religious Life Council.In addition, as a Dean's List Student and Ronald E. McNair Scholar, Smith was awarded the following awards: Martin Luther King Student Service Award, Resident Assistant of the Year, Human Dignity Award, Outstanding Senior in Human Services, and Who's Who Amongst American College Students. With an interest in Urban Sociology, Faith, and Community Organization, Smith attained a Masters Degree from the University of Michigan's School of Social Work.She focused her studies in community and faith-based organizing in urban communities.As an intern for Detroit City Council President Maryann Mahaffey, Smith concentrated on the political mobilization of African American Communities through various projects.Angela currently resides with her husband, Damon Smith, in Flint, MI.

Angela Smith of Thomaston has been chosen as the April Student of the Month (SOTM) at Flint River Technical College.Smith is a graduate of Upson High School.Smith is enrolled in the Early Childhood Care & Education program and was nominated by her instructor, Angela Chambers."I love working with children and I would love to become a pre-k teacher so I can make a difference in a child's life" explains Smith.She continues to maintain a 4.0 GPA and is very active in student organizations on campus.Smith is presently a member of the National Honor Society.Smith describes her time at Flint River Technical College as "fun and very exciting.I'm learning new things everyday and I need these skills to work with pre-k children.I would recommend Flint River Tech to others because of the small class size and the fact that the instructors care about you" says Smith.Pictured: Mr. Brad Hammack of the Bank of Upson awards Angela Smith a $25 check, which is to be used in FRTC's Bookstore.
