Angela Rudy of Rudy and Associates Ltd. presented Margo and John Cooney's plans for the Hawthorne Glen community on the northwest corner of Conc.5, next to the Tottenham Road.
Although most of the units in the development would be targetted for seniors, about a quarter would be standard single family homes.
"Our goal is to create an affordable adult lifestyle community," Rudy
said in her
presentation."I think the property has a lot of merit. The site is an appropriate location and everyone knows we need affordable housing for seniors."
The proposed development includes 135 single detached homes, 135 single family residences, 130 semi-detached units, 48 townhouses, 90 apartments in three buildings and a nursing home.
The development would also include small parkettes, a seniors' recreational meeting place, a small commercial site, possibly for things like a hairdresser or convenience store, a hawthorn tree stand and a walking trail adjacent to the South Simcoe Railway line that would link to the TransCanada Trail.
said there would be a road link created across the creek. She
added if the development is approved, they hope to have it built within six to nine years but would like to start right away.
"We certainly don't want to do this overnight," Rudy
said."We're not doing the whole thing at once, but there is a need right away."
