As an active member of the Kingwood Republican Women, Ms. Chesnut initiated and was publisher and editor of the monthly newsletter, and held the office of Publicity and Information Chairperson.
In 1994 Ms. Chesnut was elected to the Harris County Department of Education Board of Trustees.
She was re-elected in the 2000 election and serves as Vice President of the Board.
She is a member of the Department's Audit Committee and is Chairperson of the Planning Committee.
She is an advocate for children with disabilities and works with schools and parents on behalf of students with learning and physical challenges.
