Our interest is in continuing the marvelous work that the city of Bozeman has done to renovate this property to this point," said Andy Epple, President of Exergy Friends of the Story Mansion.

The city of Bozeman bought the mansion located on the corner of Willson Avenue and College Street back in 2003 for $1.2 million, and invested an additional $1.3 million into the mansion to make the property conducive for public use. If the deal goes through, the mansion will sell for $391,222, but Epple says the non-profit will end up spending much more than that. "The sale agreement obligates Exergy Friends of the Story Mansion to spend probably in the neighborhood of $2.5 million to complete the renovations," said Epple.

"I bet we're going to do 600,000 square feet in new commercial" space in 2007, said Andy Epple, Bozeman city planning director. Epple said that's equivalent to adding two new Gallatin Valley Malls in one year.

Putting 2007 into perspective, Epple said when he first moved to the sleepy university town of Bozeman to be a city planner 20 years ago, the city issued a grand total of 47 permits for new homes. This year the number was 16 times greater. If some people accuse him of having a "no growth" policy, Epple joked, it's been quite a failure.

Andy Epple, president of EFSM and former city planning director, told commissioners that the nonprofit's vision for Story Mansion is the same as the city's vision.

He said EFSM has a strong commitment to continue the tradition of making the mansion available for the public, restoring it and rehabilitating it as a historic icon. EFSM is ready to take the mansion on, he said, along with the tremendous financial responsibility that goes with it.
"We can't wait to get going on it," Epple said.
Epple said EFSM plans to use the city's fee schedule to start.

Isn't it highly questionable that Andy Epple is the former Bozeman city planning director AND president of EFSM?
