Dyer reminds Kentucky Baptists that God's word is sufficient
Kentucky Baptist Convention President Andrew Dyer delivers his presidential address to messengers Tuesday at the organization's annual meeting in Florence, Ky. (Kentucky Today/Robin Cornetet) Kentucky Baptist Convention President Andrew Dyer delivers his presidential address to messengers Tuesday at the organization's annual meeting in Florence, Ky. (Kentucky Today/Robin Cornetet) "I believe one of the biggest threats to seeing the power of God's word are Christians who think God's word needs our help," said Andrew Dyer, president of the 750,000-member Kentucky Baptist Convention. "The Bible does not need our help; we need the Bible's help." Dyer, pastor of Corinth Baptist Church in London, Ky., delivered the presidential sermon at an annual meeting in Florence, Ky., where he told about 1,000 Kentucky Baptist leaders they need an anchor point in the winds of cultural change, and that anchor point is God's word. "The question of whether we really believe God's word is what it says it is can be answered by asking: 'Do I trust God's word to do what it says it does?'" he said. Dyer based his sermon on Psalm 19:7-9, which says: "The instruction of the LORD is perfect, renewing one's life; the testimony of the LORD is trustworthy, making the inexperienced wise. The precepts of the LORD are right, making the heart glad; the command of the LORD is radiant, making the eyes light up. The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever; the ordinances of the LORD are reliable and altogether righteous." Dyer said one of the biggest challenges facing the church and, therefore, the lost world is that there are many professing Christians who aren't quite sure the precepts of the Lord are right. "Waves of uncertainty will come," he said.

Andrew Dyer, president of the Kentucky Baptist Convention, said the state's Baptists "are committed to standing with the ones the Bible calls the least of these."
"We want to consistently be a voice for the ones who have no voice, whether it be the unborn, or in this case, the victims of human trafficking," Dyer, pastor of Corinth Baptist Church in London, told the Kentucky Baptist newsjournal Western Recorder. In addition to bringing awareness to the situation, Dyer said, "We want to bring real hope to lives.
