Dr Andrew Barr Grain producer; Consultant in Plant Breeding, Agricultural Science and Agribusiness. B. Ag. Sc., Ph. D. (Plant Breeding and Genetics), MAICD Andrew runs a cereal cropping farm in Pinery, South Australia. He is a current member of the Board of Trustees, CIMMYT, Mexico and a member of the GRDC Southern Panel. Andrew is a previous board member of ABB Grain Ltd and a former member of the Malting Barley Quality Improvement Program Steering Committee. He has completed many technical and market development trips to study the grains industry in Europe, Ukraine, China, Japan, USA, Canada, South Africa, Middle East. Andrew also has 25 years working in plant breeding, he worked at SARDI as an Oat Breeder and Principal Plant Breeder from 1977 -1994 and at the University of Adelaide as the Barley Program Leader and Professor of Plant Breeding from 1994 - 2003.

Andrew Barr is the non-executive director for ABB Grain Pty Ltd. as well as a member of the Southern Panel, Grains Research and Development Corporation and has been an affiliate professor at the University of Adelaide since 1999. Since 2003 he has farmed 800 hectares of land with crops such as bread and durum wheat and until 2006 worked as a senior wheat breeder with Australian Grain Technologies. Barr has published nearly 50 scientific papers and was deputy chair of the International Barley Genetics Symposium in 2000 and chair of the International Oat Conference in 1992. He received his PhD in agricultural science from the University of Adelaide.
