In this spirit, 2003 AOSA National Conference Co-Chairs Timothy S. Brophy and Rob Amchin invited four presenters, representing four approaches to teaching general music, to present a combined double session at the conference.

Rob Amchin (Louisville, KY) - Process Party
The Process Party will celebrate the magic of improvisational teaching techniques using elemental music and movement concepts. In addition to learning materials to bring back to your classrooms, the session will reflect on the process of how to present, explore, develop and extend musical experiences using Orff pedagogic ideas. The Process Party will celebrate reflection and exploring new ideas in planning your lessons for whole year! Bring a hand drum, recorder and your dancing feet. Dr. Robert Amchin is Distinguished Teaching Professor of music education and the head of the music education/therapy division at the University of Louisville. He enjoys leading undergraduate and graduate classes in teacher education to music and non-music majors. Rob also mentors graduate thesis projects and supervises music education students in the Kentuckiana area. Rob Amchin's training includes studies at the Orff Institute (Salzburg), New England Conservatory of Music, Memphis State University, Hofstra University, Hamline University, and the University of Michigan. He was an elementary music specialist in Spring, Texas and still works with children in the Kentucky area as an artist-in-residence and music teacher. Rob teaches at summer Orff teacher-training courses and master classes, and regularly offers workshops at local, state and national music education events. As an international presenter, he has taught in China, Russia, Salzburg, Israel, Poland, and Canada. He has presented at numerous AOSA national conferences over the past 20 years. He was the AOSA National Conference co-chair in 2003 and was a contributing editor to AOSA's Reverberations publication. Dr. Amchin has contributed to various publications and projects related to music teaching and learning. He has published various collections of compositions and arrangements for elementary music children. Dr. Amchin also enjoys exploring current trends in teacher education, creative thinking research, early childhood, movement education, integrated arts curricula, and world musics.
