BLAHA RECEIVES COUNCIL'S DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
Blaha Award with Family Alvin W. Blaha was presented with the Virginia Agribusiness Council's 2008 Distinguished Service Award at the Dinwiddie County Farm Bureau Legislative Dinner on August 21. Council Chairman Charlie Wood stated, "We are pleased to recognize Alvin for his meritorious service to the Virginia Agribusiness Council and our industry in presenting him with the 2008 Distinguished Service Award." Blaha, owner and operator of Laurel Farms in Dinwiddie, is a recognized leader within the agribusiness industry. He has provided leadership as a founding Board member of the United Soybean Board, board member of the Virginia Soybean and Cotton Associations, president of the Dinwiddie Farm Bureau, and as member of the Council's Board of Directors since 1989. Awards Committee Chairman Dr. Daniel E. Brann noted, "Alvin is one of the leaders within the industry who works to ensure positive action and changes within agriculture across the state and nation." Blaha and his family are enthusiastic supporters of agricultural issues at the local, state, and federal government, evidenced by their willingness to host the Dinwiddie Farm Bureau's legislative dinner at their farm for the past ten years. "I had some major health issues four years ago and couldn't climb up and down the combine like I used to," said Alvin Blaha, a Dinwiddie County soybean farmer and active member of Dinwiddie County Farm Bureau."I think it's a great program," said Blaha, who was one of the first farmers in Virginia to use it.
