Socceroos Hurt By Late Keeper Slip, 3 June 2007 [cached]
Uruguay midfielder Alvaro Recoba, who had orchestrated his side's recovery late in the first half, could hardly believe his luck as he headed home into an empty goal to put the visitors ahead in the 77th minute.
Recoba, 31, doesn't play as much as he used to at Inter Milan and can drift in and out of games.
But he is still one of the best strikers of a dead ball in the world, and his cross from a 36th-minute free kick almost brought an equaliser as Lugano's header skidded just wide of Jones' post.
Four minutes later, it was an exquisite pass from Recoba that set up Diego Forlan for a tap-in equaliser.
A minute before half-time, Recoba almost created a second for the visitors, his whipped-in free kick setting Rodriguez up for a close-range header, which Jones stretched well to turn to safety.
Picking up after the interval where they finished the first half, the South Americans were sharper in midfield and lifted several gears as they sensed the game - and some small measure of revenge for their World Cup elimination - was there for the taking.
Recoba, dropping deeper, began to pull the strings even more and offered a constant threat from set pieces and with crosses.

Alvaro Recoba (striker, Internazionale)
They should get through the group as winners as the attacking pedigree of Garcia, Recoba and Forlan should prove too strong for their group opponents, but they probably dont have enough in the locker to open up the better teams., 17 Feb 2005 [cached]
The soccer fans of Uruguay demand the return of players Diego Forlan and Alvaro Recoba to the national team which participates in the South American qualifiers for the Germany 2006 World Cup.
Diego Forlan plays for Spain's Villareal, while Recoba is member of Italy's Internazionale.
Forlan, who played for Argentina's Independiente and England's Manchester United, is favored by most of fans, who also think Recoba has a lot to give to the national team en route to Germany 2006.

' Alvaro Recoba - the eternal dilemma '
El Chino - like he is called by Inter ultras - was the brightest star of Uruguayn league and had scored unbelieveble 57 goals in 51 matches with Uruaguayn national team when he decided to join Inter in 1997. He made his debut for Inter at Giuseppe Meazza on August 1997. Inter was playing against Brescia and was 0-1 down when Recoba ran to pitch.
Alvaro Recoba is an amazingly gifted football player. He has one of the best left feet in the world, great technique, good pace and he is very creative. Also he can walk 90 minutes on the pitch, wonder what he could do and behave like primadonna. Heâ,Ôs so damn lazy very often.
Nobody but Recoba himself can solve problems in his head. This must be done at first!
He plays very irregularly. Itâ,Ôs due to his lazy attitude. Today he scores two very beautiful goals and give brilliant assist and then he' a shadow next four matches. He was able to keep most of fans quite satisfied this way but it's not possible after Euroderby any second longer. Damn, 27-year old guy who has been professional football player ten years should realize that work is needed to get results. I dare to say that if he used only 75% his all potential he would be one of the top scorers in Serie A.
Find the heart Recoba!
Recoba was substituted after awful performance but who can believe that his reaction would have been same. Hardly nobody.
Cordoba are pure winners and great professionals but Recoba isn't at all at the moment.
Recoba says only that he has too but nobody can see it. Find this fighters heart Chino and your performances have gone a mile forward.
If Recoba was used behind two strikers we would almost always win or lose with Recoba. Who wants to put all eggs in one basket? I donâ,Ôt and not especially such a weak basket as Recoba.
Chino had to play several matches as left winger and he has all skills to play as winger, besides willing to defend little bit. That should be never seen again because Inter faced problems in defence and he didn't play like wingers should (keep position on the flank and cut in only sometimes) in my opinion. I think that itâ,Ôs the best position for him support striker and he seems to prefer it himself too. Who can imagine better striker partnership than skillfull, creative Alvaro Recoba and strong bomb man Christian Vieri?
Recoba has said something like this: "I want to show that I deserved a
