These are a couple of questions Attorney Allison Tomberlin will answer in her presentation,The Ins and Outs of Section 504. Allison will explain the basics of this federal law, which was created to provide protections for students with disabilities who participate in federally-funded programs. We will talk about what sorts of things are typically recognized as "disabilities" under section 504, and why life-threatening allergies would generally be granted section 504 protections. Allison will also discuss why accommodations may differ from child-to-child, from school-to-school, and from county-to-county. Finally, Allison will share the basic steps every parent should know when it comes to requesting or challenging a 504 accommodation. Allison will also cover possible disability accomodation in public places.

There will be a Q & A for general questions, but Allison will not be able to answer child-specific questions or give legal advice.
