In 1998, he became EVP-Operations at Jax FCU in Jacksonville, FL, where he worked until he became President/CEO of Harvesters FCU in Pensacola, FL, in early 2000.
At Harvesters, he
led the credit union in a period of consistent growth through the conversion of its charter to a community credit union, the execution of a well-developed marketing plan, the development of new products, and a strong focus on lending and sales.
In early 2008, Allen moved back to his home state of North Carolina to become CFO for Piedmont Advantage Credit Union in Winston-Salem, NC, where his team focused most of their efforts on strengthening the credit union's loan quality and growth.
Most recently, he served in the same capacity for MTC FCU in Greenville, SC.
As a former credit union CEO, Upchurch understands the challenges that credit unions must face every day, juggling sometimes limited resources to fulfill the credit union's mission.

Active in church life and the community, Allen now sings in the Greenville Chorale and Chamber Singers and currently serves on the board of the Greenville Children in Schools organizaiton.
