Dr Alison Birtle, one of our Consultant Oncologists has been shortlisted for a regional research and innovation award.
The North West Coast Research and Innovation Awards are designed to celebrate success for the excellent work being undertaken across the region in relation to clinical research and innovation. At the event's core is the desire to demonstrate how clinical research and innovation efforts have had an impact on patient care across the North West Coast and to showcase ideas. Alison has been instrumental in a number of radiotherapy-specific developments that have directly impacted upon the services we offer our patients, such as an adaptive planning system for bladder cancer patients. Alison was the first clinician to use an adaptive technique where the bladder size and position is assessed each day, and the "plan of the day" is chosen for that patient.
