Alina Bitel
Alina Bitel, Program Director, Genesis Camp Initiative Alina Bitel joined the FJC team in May 2009 as the Program Director of the Genesis Camp Initiative, designing a holistic approach in reaching Russian-speaking children and teenagers through specialized recruitment and programming strategies, targeted experiences and community partnerships. Prior to joining FJC, Alina spent 10 years working at the Marks Jewish Community House of Bensonhurst, which became an inspiration for her professional as well as her personal Jewish journey. Having emigrated from Ukraine at the age of 15, she found the "J" as her gateway to Jewish life in New York. During her college years, Alina came back to the center to serve as Youth Worker, then as the Director of Teen and Israel Education Departments, and later, the Director of Leadership Development. Drawing from her extensive outreach and programming background with the Russian-speaking Jewish children, teens, young adults, and parents, Alina is excited to apply her experience and passion on a national level. Alina earned her BA in Psychology and Russian Studies at NYU, and her MSW at Columbia University. She also is a graduate of the JCC Teen Professional Fellowship, as well as the Muehlstein Institute for Jewish Professional Leadership. She spends her free time volunteering with various Jewish non-profit organizations, travels a lot, and enjoys dancing salsa and Argentinean tango.
