Shehu Ladan, head of NNPC, said at the signing ceremony that the added refineries would reduce the $10 billion spent annually on imported refined products.
The immediate past Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Alhaji Shehu Ladan is dead.
The Kaduna-born philanthropist, lawyer and oil and gas Management Strategist passed on in a hospital in Dubai after a battle with an undisclosed ailment. Ladan had served in various capacities including Staff Solicitor of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria decades ago. He later became the Company Secretary/Legal Adviser to the Kaduna State Rural Electrification Board (REB) and Assistant Director Federal Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, Jos. The late Alhaji Ladan was appointed into the Kaduna State executive council as Commissioner of Education in 1987 and in 1989, he was appointed Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice. Ladan moved to the oil and gas industry in 1990 and he held various positions in the (NNPC), rising to the position of the Group General Manager of Human Resources in 2004. By 2006, he had become the Deputy Managing Director/CEO of Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Ltd, a joint venture company that has NNPC, Shell, Total and Agip as shareholders. In October 2007, he was appointed Group Executive Director (GED) Commercial and Investment of NNPC. And in April 2010 he was appointed the Group Managing Director after a brief recess from the industry.

NNPC Gets New GMD > NNPC
Shehu Ladan takes over from Dr Mohammed Sanusi Barkindo who was in the saddle as GMD for a year and three months having been appointed on 12th January, 2009.
Born on 21st September, 1952, Shehu Ladan comes into office as the 13th GMD of the Corporation. A seasoned legal practitioner, Ladan parades a rich pedigree in the oil and gas industry. He was, until July 2009, the Group Executive Director Commercial and Investment of NNPC. He also worked briefly as the GED Corporate Services of the Corporation. Before then, he was Group General Manager, Human Resources of NNPC, Company Secretary/Legal Adviser of the Nigerian Gas Company and Deputy Managing Director of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas, NLNG. He also worked as the Manager Admin and Personnel, Pipelines and Products Marketing Company, PPMC, a subsidiary of the NNPC. Ladan was also Executive Director Services, Nigeria Engineering and Technical Company Limited, NETCO . Before then, he served as Staff Solicitor of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria. He was also Company Secretary/Legal Adviser, Kaduna State Rural Electrification Board (REB) and Assistant Director, Federal Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, Jos. Ladan was appointed to the Kaduna State executive council in 1987 as Commissioner of Education and he was made Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in 1989. During his tenure as education commissioner, he founded and established the Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic Zaria (formerly Kaduna State Polytechnic). He also sponsors research and publications and indigent students from all parts of Kaduna state to the institution. He holds the traditional title of Cigarin-Zazzau (The Conqueror) .
