At the suggestion of Lord Melchett (then Sir Alfred Mond) he joined the Mond Nickel Company, Ltd. in 1916, later becoming Director of this company and a Vice-President of the International Nickel Co. of Canada, Ltd.In 1932, he was elected M.P. (Liberal) for Cardiganshire and he represented that constituency until 1945.He was greatly interested in Welsh institutions and was a member of the Council of the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion, the National Library of Wales, and the National Museum of Wales.A keen musician and eisteddfodwr, he was president of the Council of the National Eisteddfod during the period when the new Constitution of the Council was adopted.To the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, of which College he was Treasurer, he was a generous benefactor.He was knighted a week before his death on 11 June 1945.
