The San Antonio, Zambales school was established by violinist Alfonso "Coke" Bolipata 10 years ago when he returned home from his studies in the United States.Set against the verdant background of a mango orchard, the arts center provides opportunities to gifted children outside Metro Manila to develop their talent whether in classical music, the visual arts or theater.Children as young as three from various economic backgrounds come week-to-week to hone their talents.Bolipata says that the work in Casa San Miguel "in one way or another, proves that culture can be integrated towards improving the quality of life at the grass-roots level."

They include 31 scholars and grantees of the CASA San Miguel Foundation, and 120 musically inclined children from the local community of San Antonio who are training under violinist Alfonso "Coke" Bolipata. Mr. Bolipata, president and musical director of CASA San Miguel, established the foundation after returning from his studies at the Julliard School of Music in New York and the University of Indiana.He
started offering workshops in 1996 to prove to his
local community of fisher-folk and farmers that the arts are not just for the rich and the elite.
