Alex Swift, Rackspace's manager for technical services, says the company has never made anyone redundant but if it were to become necessary it would definitely be something up for scrutiny and discussion at the open book meetings.
Swift says the reason he left his previous job was because of a lack of transparency. He was working for a UK telecommunications company that was spending a lot of money and expanding in the UK market. When it came to the end of the financial year he thought they were going to celebrate a great year but as it turned out, it had been a very poor year. "I felt betrayed and undervalued so I left that business and joined Rackspace," he says. Unlike the UK telco, when Rackspace was going through a tough time, he was pulled aside and told things might be a little harder because they were slowing down their hiring process.
