Alexander William Alfred Stock, born in Somerset in March 1917, went on to take charge of a total of 1352 games, as manager of Leyton Orient, QPR, Luton, Fulham and Bournemouth. He began his football career as an apprentice at Tottenham Hotspur, before signing professional with Charlton Athletic, although he never made a first team appearance for The Addicks.After success with Orient, taking them to the Third Division South title in 1956, Stock left to become assistant manager at Arsenal under Tom Whittaker.
