ALEX SCHULTZ
Biography ALEX SCHULTZ Alex was born in New York City in 1954 and at a young age became immersed in the city's legacy of jazz. He studied with guitarist George Barnes as well as at the famed Berklee College of Music in Boston. Schultz moved to Los Angeles in 1979 and established himself as both a bass player and guitarist on the roots music scene, working for two and a half years with rock and roll/rhythm and blues pioneer Hank Ballard. Beginning in 1986 Alex worked with harmonica master William Clarkeand recorded the Blues Music Award-winning album Blowing Like Hell. In 1988 Alex began a seven-year, five record association with Rod Piazza & the Mighty Flyers. Schultz left the group in 1995 to pursue other projects as a free agent. At the same time, Schultz appeared on two Delmark releases with longtime New York friend Tad Robinson, a collaboration that continues to this day. Tad Robinson featuring Alex Schultz Alex Schultz

But it was the band: Alex Schultz, Kevin Anker, Robb Stupka, and Steve Gomes, with the addition of David Earl, that brought the discussion to life.

Did You Ever Wonder? | Severn Records

A stellar backing group includes guitarist Alex Schultz (Rod Piazza, William Clarke), drummer Marty Binder (Albert Collins, Junior Wells), Harlon Terson on bass (Lonnie Brooks, Otis Rush), and horn charts by soul legend Willie Henderson of Tyrone Davis and the Chi-Lites fame.
I would like to thank Alex Schultz, Josh Shapera, David Earl, and the Severn staff for good advice, good ears, and good times. Alex Schultz: Guitar Produced by Tad Robinson, David Earl, Alex Schultz, and Josh Shapera

I'm Still Swingin' | Severn Records

Backing Joe on Swingin' are long-time sidemen including bassist Jeff Sarli (Rolling Stones Bridges to Babylon), John Cocuzzi who shares keyboard duties with Kevin McKendree (Delbert McClinton, Brian Setzer, Mike Ferris), guitarist Ivan Appelrouth, and seasoned veteran on the tenor saxophone Joe Stanley (Link Wray, Roy Clark, Danny Gatton) . Also appearing are a host of guests including former Mighty Flyer, Alex Schultz whose fret work is the perfect compliment to Joe's belting vocals, former Black Top recording saxophonist Mark "Kaz" Kazanoff, and country music great Lee Roy Parnell who adds his trademark guitar licks on one number.

Servin' It Up | Severn Records

Featuring Severn's regular guest guitarist, Alex Schultz (Rod Piazza & the Mighty Flyers) and the tight rhythm section of the Severn Records house band (bassist Steve Gomes and drummer Robb Stupka), the album was recorded in just over two days and is a testament to the extraordinary talents of each musician.
Alex Schultz's restraint and unaffected tone leaves me begging for more. Alex Schultz: Guitar
