Alex MacBeath, Health PEI Board Vice Chair
Alex MacBeath received his B.Sc. from UPEI and his MBA from Dalhousie University. A member of the Canadian, Ontario, and Prince Edward Island Institutes of Chartered Accountants, he received his CA designation in 1979 and was awarded his FCA in 2003. He is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors and holds his ICD.D designation through the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management. He has completed executive education programs at Harvard Business School, Oxford University, and Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. Mr. MacBeath was with Grant Thornton LLP for 35 years, 26 of those as a partner. He was the CEO and Executive Partner of Grant Thornton LLP from 2001-08. From 2008 until his retirement in 2012, his title was Global Leader, Markets, and Regional Leader, Asia Pacific at Grant Thornton International, based in London, UK. He has extensive experience in business strategy, risk management, national and international markets, and managing change in large and complex organizations. Mr. MacBeath has been an elected executive member of both the Grant Thornton International and Grant Thornton Canada Boards. He has been on the boards of many not-for-profit organizations, and also had extensive involvement with the boards of many for-profit companies as an accountant and as the CEO of a public accounting firm. MacBeath MBA, FCA, ICD.D From Murray Harbour, Prince Edward Island, Alex has held senior leadership positions both nationally and globally over his career and brings a depth of experience and expertise to the Health PEI Board of Directors. A graduate of the University of Prince Edward Island's Bachelor of Science and Dalhousie University's Masters of Business Administration programs, Alex began working with Grant Thornton Canada in 1977 and became a chartered accountant in 1979. In 2001, Alex was named Chief Executive Officer and Executive Partner for Grant Thornton Canada. He held that position until 2008 when he transferred to Grant Thornton International in London, a position he maintained until 2012. Alex has also been a leader in the community serving on various boards including involvement with United Way, Hospital for Sick Children and Atlantic Ballet Theatre Company. Alex is also a founding partner of the Economic Club of Toronto.
