The Greenbrier Companies, Inc., has promoted Alejandro ("Alex") Arias to general manager of Gunderson-GIMSA, the company's joint venture manufacturing operation in Monclova, Coahuila, Mexico.
In this new role, Arias
will have direct responsibility for day-to-day operations at the Gunderson-GIMSA
facility, where Greenbrier
has three production lines manufacturing tank cars and covered hopper cars.
Arias joined Greenbrier last year and most recently served as director of quality assurance at Gunderson-GIMSA.
He previously served as director of manufacturing operations at the company's Gunderson-Concarril facility in Ciudad Sahagun, Hidalgo, Mexico.
has 35 years of experience working with multinational transportation equipment manufacturers in Mexico, including work in the freight, automotive and mass transit sectors.
Before joining Greenbrier, he spent 13 years at Bombardier Transportation, where he held roles of increasing responsibility.
From 1980 through 1998 he served in a range of manufacturing management functions at Ford Motor Co.
Arias completed his post-secondary education in Mexico and holds a degree in mechanical engineering in addition to an M.B.A.
replaces Brian LaBorde, who has accepted a senior position in the United States with a manufacturer outside the transportation equipment industry, Greenbrier
