Born Dec. 10, 1949, the daughter of Rebecca and Albert Atkins, she graduated from Beaufort High School in 1968. Miss Atkins was a member of Brick Baptist Church, where she was one of the first members to be trained as a nurse.She was superintendent of the Sunday school for several years. She was a member of the Pastor's Aide Ministry, and sang in the Senior Choir and the Marion Newton Choir, and directed the Youth Choir.She also was a member of the Ribaut Lanes Bowling League. Miss Atkins worked at Beaufort-Jasper-Hampton Comprehensive Health Services. Survivors include her parents; a daughter, Teresa Chantel Wilson of Lady's Island; six sisters, Veronica Atkins and Mary Sweetenburg, both of St. Helena Island, Iris Sweetenburg and Leslie Sweetenburg, both of Savannah, Theresa Gadson of South Plains, N.J., and Penni Sweetenburg-Lee of San Berandino, Calif.; seven brothers, Brady Sweetenburg, James Sweetenburg and Thomas Sweetenburg, all of Savannah, James Atkins of Stanford, Conn., John Atkins of St. Helena Island, Albert Atkins of Fort Mill, Alvin Atkins of High Spring, Fla.; and a grandchild.
